• Char-broil Santa Fe Charcoal Grill

  Its cooking surface is almost 500 square inches, but it took about a half day to assemble. A Home Depot spokeswoman said the grill can be taken to a Home Depot store for assembly assistance.

• Smoke-Reducing Vertical Charcoal Grill

  This grill is great if you're looking for a conversation piece, but not if you want something that cooks efficiently. Vertical design means heat is lost. Plus, you'll have to deal with wiping down the grease-trapping trays.
