Here's what to expect on a trip to Vieques, a tiny island eight miles off the coast of Puerto Rico:

  • Flights to Vieques leave from San Juan, Puerto Rico and take about 30 minutes.
  • The Hix Island House does not have a restaurant and you'll need a car to get into town.
  • There are no phones, televisions or screens on windows.
  • Travel from November to April when the weather is good.
  • The best part about Vieques is the beach. It's never hard to find one to call your own.
