There are more than 18,000 PGA members and around 10,800 PGA head golf pro positions in the U.S.

  • The courses required to become a PGA member cost a minimum of $6,000.
  • Passing the Players Ability Test with a 77 stroke score after 18 holes is the mandatory PGA requirement.
  • In addition to the PGA program and ability test, aspiring pros must spend three to five years as apprentices.
  • In the U.S., 8,000 apprentices are working toward PGA membership.
  • Golf professionals generally charge $70 and up per hour for private lessons and make an average of $65,000 a year.
  • The average salary of a retail store golf club salesman is $30,000.
