Record Label (202)
Lee Dyson is an enterprising Los Angeles disc jockey with hopes of running a boutique record label. His dream is put to the test at Electric Monkey Records, which boasts a diverse roster of talent including Grammy nominees The Latin Project and world beat sensation Joël Virgel.

Under the tutelage of general manager Jeff Grabow, CEO Michael Skloff, and Vice President of Artists and Repertoire Giorgio Bertuccelli, Dyson is entrusted with coordinating a showcase for aspiring neo-soul singer Jennifer Johns. Is his dream as good as gold or is he headed for the bottom of the charts?

  • There are more than 7,000 record labels in the U.S. — 2,000 of them based in California.
  • The top four record labels control 80 percent of all industry sales.
  • Record sales generate $31 billion dollars in annual revenue.
  • In 2003, record companies shipped 746 million CDs.
  • Only 15 percent of all recordings are profitable.
